A. William “Bill” Rechner, 94, of Springfield, IL passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026. He was born on July 15, 1932, in Springfield, IL the son of August William and Althea (Hartman) Rechner, Sr. He married Donna Carr on June 15, 1982, and she survives.

In addition to his wife Donna, Bill is survived by four children, Keith (Tammy) Rechner of Springfield, Kent Rechner of Orlando, FL, Kurt (Melani) Rechner of Austin, TX, and Karen (Dan) Kirby of Springfield; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marjorie Rechner, and Marilyn Gustafson.

Bill worked for Illinois Bell for over thirty years as a sales manager. He also served as a senior executive of Illinois Bell Pioneers Association. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Bill served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and was an avid gardener and was known as the tomato enthusiast every year. He was a proud sponsor with AA.

Bill was a die-hard Illinois and Notre Dame College sports fan. He enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Bears and the New York Yankees but was also a closeted Chicago Cubs Fan.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 20, 2026, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Lesupati officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League of Springfield.
