Alan Wayne Middleton, 83, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his home. He was born on January 30, 1943, in Danville, the son of Wayne Middleton and Elsie “Toni” (Webber) Lee. He married Belinda Walters in 1978, and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Melissa Lee Middleton of Hindsboro; six grandchildren, Treton (Alexis) Fuller, Chase Davison, Ayanna Fuller, Talia Davison, Hayden Jenks, and Jacoby Jenks; great-grandson, Joshua Fuller; four brothers, Robert “Bob” (Amy) Lee of California, Gary (Misty) Lee of Nevada, Wesley “Duke” (Judy) Middleton of Alabama, and Dean (Nicole) Middleton of North Carolina; special nephew, Monte Cox; and several other nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Swearingen; and beloved daughter, Alana Fuller.
Alan carried a deep love for classic cars, spending countless hours working on them and bringing them back to life. He was an avid sports fan of all kinds, baseball, football, basketball, you name it. When he wasn’t watching sports or tinkering in the garage, you could find him on the water, fishing pole in hand where he found peace. After many years, Alan retired from his role as head of security at the Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Most of all, Alan loved and cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Cremation has been accorded by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
