Barbara Ann Young, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024 surrounded by her family at home. Barb was born March 16, 1949 in Springfield, the daughter of Fred and Doris Brown.

Barb married her high school sweetheart, Charles R. “Bob” Young in 1966. She graduated from Feitshans High School in 1967 and received her degree from Sangamon State in 1990.

Barb owned Shadid’s Book Mart downtown Springfield in the 1990’s. Barb retired from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue in 2009. In her spare time, she was involved with CY Young Little League, and Sangamo Surf Club where she met a large number of lifelong friends.

Barb is survived by her husband Bob; son, Michael and his wife, Michelle, grandchildren Kelci and Kolby; brother, George (Diana) Brown; special sisters-in-law Carolyn Vinson and Sandy Welling; many cousins, nephews and nieces.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all of Barb’s nurses, especially a very special nurse, Christine, CNA Destiny all with Traditions hospice care.

Please dress casually as this was Barb’s wishes.

Visitation: 2 – 5 pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Monday, July 29, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Road Springfield, IL 62702.
