Bob T. Bastas, 93, of Springfield, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones Monday, June 16, 2025. He was born October 28, 1931, in Benton, IL, the son of Thomas P. and Laura (Perkins) Bastas.

Known for his kindness, humor and optimistic personality, Bob often joked, “Every day is a holiday. Every day is a picnic.”. He loved his family deeply and made friends just about everywhere he went.

Bob was a United States Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He retired from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office as a hearing officer and previously was a court reporter.

He was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club and volunteered at the food pantry at Christ Episcopal Church. He also loved to travel.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Loni (Bell); daughter, Nicole Jett and her husband Tom of Pompano Beach, FL; son, Neal Bastas and his wife Julia of Hartland, VT; grandson, Miles Bastas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Bastas and sister, Denysia Bastas.

Visitation: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, Monday, June 23, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral: 12:30 pm, Monday, June 23, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Kathy Fogal officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers or Memorial Home Hospice.
