Bruno Odorizzi, 99, of Springfield, died at 3:25 am, Sunday, November 12, 2023 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. He was born October 8, 1924 in Taylor Springs, IL, the son of Enrico and Teresa (Bussetti) Odorizzi. He married Patricia Clark on May 22, 1965 and she preceded him in death on April 24, 1977. He married Helen Skaggs on February 27, 1982 and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2015.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, Bill Skaggs, Jr. and his sister, Sr. Celeste Odorizzi.
Bruno is survived by a stepdaughter, Linda (Steve) Smith of Springfield, and three grandchildren, Ariel, Johnny and Micah (Maddie) Smith. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Karen (Marc) Lecount, Lois Hare, Dorothy (John) Negangard and Carla Watkins, and brother-in-law, Melvin (Doris) Woods as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a graduate of St. James Trade School. Bruno served in the United States Air Force from 1946-1947. He worked as a commercial and corporate pilot for 28 years, after retiring he re-entered the workforce currently worked as an electronic technician. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.
Bruno was a remarkable and kind man. He and his sister lived in orphanages after the death of his father and ill-health of his mother, including Alton and Decatur. He and his sister performed with other orphans at the 1933 World’s Fair. He worked at Gietl Brothers at one time. In addition to being a pilot, he was also a flight instructor. He flew for General Telephone, Biddle Advertising and Portable Elevator in Bloomington, Illinois. He flew Gerald Ford before he was President and John Cameron Swayze. Most recently, he worked full-time at Great Western Team Service in Springfield. He cared deeply for each of his wives, children, and for his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
He was a member of Church of the Little Flower.
Visitation: 9 – 11 am, Friday, November 17, 2023 at Church of the Little Flower.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Friday, November 17, 2023 at Church of the Little Flower where Reverend Al Kemme will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery
Memorial contributions may be given to Little Flower Church or Adorers of the Blood of Christ in Ruma, IL.
