Cecil W. Kennedy 89, of Springfield, died at 3:51 am, Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born May 21, 1935, in Springfield, to Cecil F. and Beulah Stearns Kennedy. He married Barbara A. Moser on May 9, 1981, and she survives.

Also surviving are four children, Craig (Julie) Kennedy of Springfield, Robert (Linda) Kennedy of Mt. Sterling, Rick Sidener of Kentucky and Cindy Sidener of Springfield; son-in-law, Gary Wassell of Springfield; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dena Wassell; one brother, Oren Kennedy and one sister, Norma Jean Emmons.

Cecil was a member of Springfield Masonic Lodge #4, and Blueville Lodge #647 in Edinburg, and served as Master at both; as well as Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite. In 2020, he received the Meritorious Service Award. He was also a member of ANSAR Shrine and was a patient at the Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis from 1935-1945.

He worked as an Operating Engineer for Local #965.

Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A masonic service will be held at 11:45 am.

Funeral Service: 12 pm, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Rick Irwin officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery,

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis or to Children’s Dyslexia Center for Valley of Springfield.
