Christopher Allen Johnson, also known as Bubba and Batman, 20, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. Chris was welcomed into the world on January 27, 2005, a true fighter from the start. Born a micro-preemie, he defied all odds, showing strength and resilience that would define his life. His determination to overcome challenges was evident every day. Though his time with us was far too short, he lived with a heart full of courage and joy.
Christopher is survived by his loving parents, Christopher and Stephanie (Wysocki) Johnson of Springfield; grandparents, Sandy and Frank Johnson of Springfield and Dave (Terri) Wysocki of Arkansas; and uncle, Cody Johnson of Springfield.
Christopher was a student at Lee School. He received his schooling at home, but received support from countless therapists, teachers, and one very special teacher for the visually impaired Mrs. Karen Epley. Christopher enjoyed making art with this teacher. His masterpieces became gifts for his mother and a side hustle. Christopher will always be grateful for his vision teacher for exposing him to the outside world, art, cooking, and making messes. Christopher loved interacting with classmates and staff members.
Christopher’s journey was one of inspiration and perseverance. From his earliest days in the NICU to his bright and passionate spirit, he showed everyone around him what it truly means to fight and cherish every moment. Though he faced many obstacles, he never let them define him. He was known for his infectious smile, his orneriness, and his love of sarcasm!
Christopher had a thirst for knowledge and a boundless curiosity. He loved experimenting with science, creating art in every form, and painting vibrant worlds full of life and color. He had a special fascination with dinosaurs, always eager to learn more about these ancient creatures, and could spend hours watching his favorite creepy movies or listening to scary podcasts. His favorite way to create excitement was through exploding volcanoes, which mirrored his fiery spirit and love for the thrill of discovery.
He may have been here for only 20 years, but his impact on those who knew him is everlasting. His family and friends are grateful for the time they had with him, and though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved him.
Visitation: Tuesday, February 4, 2025, 4-7 pm at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. All who know him are welcome to join in honoring his legacy.
