Colleen K. Whelen, 67, of Springfield, IL, passed away on July 21, 2025, at Regency Care Center with her sisters at her side. She was born on August 25, 1957, in Springfield, IL to Harry E. and Hazel "Jackie" (Richardson) Whelen. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Harry “Denny” Whelen, Timothy K. Whelen, and great-niece, Pipher Chenault.

Colleen is survived by her four sisters, Madelyn (Monte) Symons of Palm Bay, FL, Phyllis (Bob) Rogers of Oklahoma City, OK, Jan (James) Moore of Morrison, IL, and Judi (Kent) Marshall of Olney, IL; seven nieces and seven nephews, and many great- nieces and nephews.

Colleen was a lifelong resident of Springfield and graduated from Southeast High School in 1975. She was a former member of First Baptist Church where she enjoyed being part of the music ministry. She worked at St. John's Hospital as a unit clerk for 32 years before her retirement. She considered it her mission to spoil her nieces and nephews when they were young and lived her life with color.

Colleen received loving care from the staff at Regency Care and extraordinary care from Memorial Home Hospice, and her family is very thankful to those who made her last years enjoyable.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 pm, Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Sojourn Shelter.
