Dean E. Williams, 84, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on December 15, 1941, in Toledo, OH, the son of Marian Sylvester and Mayala Spann Williams. He married Joyce Irene Clark on March 1, 1997, and she preceded him in death on June 20, 2025.
Dean is survived by his children, Duane E. Williams and Dana Ray Williams, both of Springfield; Craig (Cindy) Schaefer of Astoria; Suzanne (Kevin) King of Rochester; and LeaAnn (Rod) Johnson of Auburn. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Ricky Williams, Presley Williams, Luke Williams, Dana Renae Williams, Kelsea Schaeffer, Brandy (Keith) Lane, Abbey (Brent) Thorman, Courtney King, Jacob King, Alex Johnson, Ben Johnson, Peter Lane, and Dakota, Reagen, Cameron, and Anderson Thorman.
In addition to his wife Joyce, he was preceded in death by one son, Rick Williams; his parents; and one brother, Larry Williams.
Dean was the founder and Executive Director of the Central Illinois Film Commission (CIFC), where he worked tirelessly to promote Central Illinois as a welcoming and vibrant hub for film and media production. Through his vision and leadership, Dean helped bring numerous productions to the region, connected local talent with meaningful opportunities, and championed the creative community.
A gifted artist, Dean worked as a still photographer on more than 160 major films in Hollywood and later owned Dean Williams Photography, specializing in professional portraits, weddings, and events.
Dean graduated from Lanphier High School and attended Sangamon State University and Lincoln Land Community College where he majored in film.
Dean proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the VFW Post #10302 in Springfield. He was also a devoted member of Elm Street Christian Church, where he found strength, fellowship, and faith throughout his life.
Visitation: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. An additional visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Friday, January 9, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Illinois 4-H for the Youth in Film.
