Dolores Mae (Steinmacher) Young, 91 of Springfield, passed away at 3:45 pm, Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Villa Healthcare East. She was born May 21, 1933 in Springfield, IL to Louis and Elizabeth (Keller) Steinmacher. She married Kenneth L. Young in 1955 and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2013. They have five children who survive, two sons, Kenneth J. Young and Scott G. (Jennifer) Young; three daughters, Susan K. Young, Carol L. (Tom) Putting, and Mary E. Young (Andy Egizi) all of Springfield.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Rob (Anne) McFarland, Luke (Gabby) McFarland, Jade (Tyler) Rainbolt, and Logan McFarland, Rachel (Jonathan) Mooney and Scott Young, Jr; four great grandchildren, Finley McFarland, Abrahm and Gideon McFarland, Scarlett Rainbolt and one on the way; one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Kochman of Springfield; one cousin, Norma Gene Hale of Pontiac, IL, and cherished extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Louis, Jr., George, Joe, Carl “Boom-Boom”, and John Steinmacher.

Dolores graduated in 1947 from Sacred Heart Grade School, and in 1951 from Sacred Heart Academy. She was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Catholic Women’s Council, St. John’s Retirees, Crazy 8 Bunco Club, and Legion of Mary.

Dolores retired from St. John’s Hospital after 17 years of service. Previously, she was employed at Horace Mann, The Learning Nook and Wee Care Day Cares, Franklin Life for 9 years, and during High School at the old Thompson Restaurant downtown.

Memorial Gathering: 4 – 6:30 pm, Friday, May 30, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Memorial Service: 6:30 pm, Friday, May 30, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Legacy Theatre, Helping Hands of Springfield, or Progressive - Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) & Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) Foundation.
