Donald Alwerdt 73, of Franklin, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at White Hall Nursing and Rehab. He was born May 4, 1950 in Springfield to Wilbert D. and Ruth E. Kochman Alwerdt. He married Susan Uber on March 15, 1975 and she survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Jessica (Gregory) Wilcox; son, Jeremiah (Melissa) Alwerdt; granddaughters; Hayden Alwerdt, Kaitlyn Alwerdt, Emily Wilcox, Elizabeth Wilcox and Evelyn Wilcox; brother, David (Manon) Alwerdt; nieces, Krista Alwerdt, Amanda Uber, Brittany (Michael) DePhillips, Michelle Uber, Cathy Uber and Mary (Arly) Phelps; nephew, Jeffrey Dale Uber; Brother-in-law, Kevin (Edith) Uber and Sister-in-laws, Loretta Sue Uber and Teresa Uber.


He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Douglas Alwerdt; nephew, Cody Alwerdt, Brothers-in-law, Steven and Jeffrey Uber.

Donald was a graduate of Lanphier High School and received his Master’s Degree in Workforce Education from Southern Illinois University.

Don worked as Construction Superintendent for Laborers Local 477; he was Facilities Director and Math Instructor with Lincoln Land Community College; served as Property Manager at Marine Bank and worked for Sangamon County in Inspections and Energy Audit division.

He was a Life Member of NRA and Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA).

Don was proud of his accomplishments as an Illinois Professional Archer, an All-State football offensive guard and was a National Archery champion.

He enjoyed all his family (especially his granddaughters), gardening, planting flowers; his farm, hunting, and fishing.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Wednesday May 31, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Cancer Center or the University of Iowa Holden Cancer Center.
