Donald “Bruce” Starkweather, 71, of Springfield, passed away at 1:01 am, Saturday, October 25, 2025, at The Bridge Care Suites. He was born August 2, 1954, in Springfield, the son of Donald and Doris (Winner) Starkweather, and they preceded him in death.

 He was also preceded in death by his nephew Jamie.

 He is survived by a son, Ronnie (Tina) Starkweather of Springfield; daughter, Sheila Handley of Springfield; five grandchildren, Brett (Keyana), Brooklyn (Austin) and Devin (Danae), Makenzi and Morgan; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Ted (Kathy) Starkweather of Springfield and Scott (Peggy) Starkweather of Lincoln; sister, Terry Szerletich of Auburn; canine companion, Chole and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Bruce was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #965 for many years. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and riding horses.

 Visitation: 10 – 11 am, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

 Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Farmingdale Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will immediately following the committal service at VFW Post #755, 2211 Old Jacksonville Road, Springfield, IL 62704.

 Memorial contributions may be made to WILD Canine Rescue, 3309 Robbins Road, PO Box #109 Springfield, IL 62704.
