Donald H. Ladson, 76, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 16, 1949, in Sullivan, Indiana the son of Gilbert “Bert” and Ruth Louise (Steven) Ladson. He married Mary Catherine Reilly on January 22, 1982, in Springfield and she survives.
In addition to his wife Mary Catherine, Donald is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilbert, Gilbert, Larry Ladson; four sisters, Patricia Nichols, Janet Thompson, Christina Hodges, and Diana Brown.
Donald served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1971 during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany as a mechanic.
Donald worked for John Carey Oil Company in Mechanicsburg as a superintendent. After he retired, he worked as a contractor where he remodeled and built new homes.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 32 in Springfield for over 52 years; was member of the National Rifle Association and was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 4361.
He enjoyed collecting guns, watching John Wayne movies and playing poker.
Visitation: 9:00 am – 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Military Service: 12:00 pm, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honor’s will be conducted by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the United States Army Burial Detail. Private entombment will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsburg Volunteer Fire Department or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
