Donald “Mark” Beattie III of Sherman, passed away at 4:48 pm, Friday, January 2, 2026, at his home. He was born June 14, 1951, in Rochester, IN, the son of Donald Mark, Jr. and Suzanne (Mitchell) Beattie. He married Katrina J. Hizer on June 28, 1985, and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2023.

 Also preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Teresa Beattie Slusser.

 He is survived by two children, Jason Smith of Sherman and Dr. Sarah Smith of Springfield; five grandchildren, Quentin (Jessica Prumm) Smith, Makaeda (Drew) Matthews-Smith, Gavin Smith, Gabrielle Smith and Alexis Smith; one sister, Cindy Randall of Rochester, IN; two nieces, Jacqueline Randall Jaberg and Jessica Randall Underwood; nephew, Kevin Kennedy; four great nieces, two great great nieces and two great great nephews.

 Mark worked for 27 years for the FDIC as a bank regulator, retiring in 2013. Mark received his BS from Indiana University, MBA from Indiana University in South Bend and Honors Graduate of the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, WI.

 Mark was an avid bridge player, traveling to several tournaments throughout the country and achieving the rank of Gold Life Master. He loved traveling with his family, visiting 48 states out of 50. Mark was also a voracious reader and avid sports enthusiast, having supported the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Vikings, and the Indiana Hoosiers.

 Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday, January 16, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.

 Funeral Service: 11:00 am Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman with Pastor Chris Prumm officiating.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bridge Club of Springfield, 820 Colorado Court, Springfield, IL 62711.
