Donna Marie Griffin, 89, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 11, 1936, in Springfield, to William and Loretta Schnepp Glickert. She married the love of her life, Kenneth P. Griffin, on June 9, 1956, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Griffin of Chatham and Kelly (Gene) Powell of Arenzville, IL; two sons, Timothy (Joanie) Griffin of Springfield and Michael Griffin of Springfield; four grandchildren, Tareyn (Chans) Kluge, Faelyn (Alex) Byrne, Sean Griffin and Ryan Griffin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Benjamin Powell; as well as many other beloved family members.
Donna was a faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary Council 4175.
She supported her family as a homemaker and taught chair caning at Lincoln Land Community College for twenty years.
As a life-long resident, Donna absolutely loved her hometown, especially Washington Park, which she fondly referred to as “her park”. Donna’s love for Springfield was nurtured due to the fact that her family went back many, many generations, as both elected officials and as influential members of the community. This love and pride for the city was recognized on February 9, 2011, when she was presented a Proclamation by then Mayor Frank Edwards, recognizing her as an unofficial ambassador of the City of Springfield.
The Griffin Family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care of Donna.
