Dorothea “Doann” Ann Murray, 89, of Macon, GA, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at her home. She was born December 18, 1934, in Springfield, the daughter of General Gerald Bartholomew and DeEtte (Fredrickson) Lahey. She married Phillips George Murray in 1958, and he preceded her in death in 1983.

Surviving Doann include her daughter, DeEtte Murray (Gordon) Mountford of South Pasadena, CA; son, Christopher Lahey (Eva) Murray of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Phillips George Murray II, Alley Lahey Murray Phillips, Christopher Jacob Murray, and Megan Murray Mountford; four great-grandchildren, Gemma Holt, Meyers, and Scottie; two step-grandchildren, Skye Bolt and Evan Flading; brother, Gerald (Janey) Lahey; and two nephews, Phillip Lahey and Kevin Lahey.

Doann was a devoted individual with a passion for education, arts, and community. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she earned her bachelor's degree in teaching. Her enthusiasm for sports, particularly golf and tennis, was notable. She worked briefly as a Physical Education teacher at Rochester High School. She played a pivotal role in shaping the Springfield Art Association, leading the organization as President and Interim Director. Doann prioritized her family, from leading scout troops and attending PTA meetings, while providing for her family as a homemaker.

Graveside Service: 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
