Edris “Ed” Dale Mabie, Jr., 73, of Pawnee, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 23, 1953, in Springfield, the son of Edris Mabie, Sr. and Anna Lyle Connor and they preceded him in death. He married Ramona Jones Scoles on June 21, 2019.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona Mabie of Pawnee; Dani Mabie, daughter of Edris and Theresa Mabie, of Chatham; two stepsons, Nicholas and Elijah Scoles, both of Pawnee; two grandchildren, Kylee and Jed Ferguson of Chatham; two siblings, Joan (Gary) Ori and Jim (Beverly) Mabie, both of Chatham; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ed attended Murray State in Florida on a full golf scholarship, returning to Springfield to play professional golf for several years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University and dedicated his career to public service at Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois in the Information Technology Department, retiring in 2015 as the Chief Information Officer. His innovation and dedication were instrumental in upgrading the computer systems from a mainframe to PC-based system, Y2K compliance and finally to web-based applications on the internet.

Ed enjoyed hosting gatherings of family and friends and was one of the top amateur golfers in Central Illinois. He was inducted into the LLCC Golf Hall of Fame in 1993 for the lowest average strokes per round, where his record still stands. He won many central Illinois tournaments and his dream of winning the Springfield Men’s City Tournament was obtained in 2018, where he holds the record of the oldest winner of the tournament at age 65, earning him the nickname “Steady Eddie”, which will live on for years to come.
