Edward “Eddie” L. Budds, 70, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital after fighting a good fight battling pancreatic cancer for a year. He was born May 28, 1954, in Chicago, IL, the son of Edward L. Budds Sr. and Dorothy V. Hubbs. He married Diana S. (Moore) Stark on September 15, 1984.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; daughters, Christy Budds and Dawn Stark and son, Scott Budds.

Survivors include his wife, Diana S. Budds of Springfield; one son, Donald “Donnie” Stark III of Springfield; one grandson, Daryn Stark (Cherokee Duewer) of Springfield; sister, Kathy (Frank) McCloskey of Brazoria, TX; his father’s wife, Mrs. Ed Budds Sr. (Linda) of Austin, TX; four brothers, Mike Budds of Springfield, Bob (Sue) Budds of Williston, FL, Gary (Celia) Pritchard of Austin, TX, and Wm Russell (Brenda) Pritchard of Ava, IL; one uncle, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ed attended Lanphier High School, where he graduated in 1973. He was a former Parts Manager for Bob Cat of Springfield and was a Parts Director for Bob Brady Auto Group in Decatur, where he retired after 30 years of dedication.


Ed was a man of faith who attended South Tower Community Church. He was a member of the Fit Club Silver Sneakers and enjoyed the Water Exercise program. He volunteered for the Animal Protective League on cat adoption Sundays. Ed was a former member of the Cool Cruisers Car Club and was a DeMolay who recently received the Legion of Honor.

Ed was a Steward for the Mason at Lodge 4, a Stagehand for the Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite, an Aide for the Potentate of Ansar, and was 1st Vice President for Arab Patrol.

Ed deeply loved his wife, children, grandson, family, and friends and hanging out in his garage. He liked 70’s Rock ‘n’ Roll as well as Kid Rock, Alabama, Chris Stapelton, Luke Bryan, and The Eagles. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson race his quarter midgets and micro sprint. He was tremendously loved, respected and will be sadly and sorely missed.

Visitation: 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective League or Shriners Hospitals for Children in St. Louis.
