Gail L. Cannedy, 90, of Rochester, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at his residence. He was born on April 23, 1935, in Alton, IL, the son of Earl James and Ethel Pearl (Squires) Cannedy. He married Elfrieda Katowski on January 4, 1957, and she preceded him in death on January 9, 2016.

Gail is survived by two children, Greg (Kathe) Cannedy of Rochester and Mark (Sarah) Cannedy of Pheonix, AZ; three grandchildren, Lauren (Zach) Zimmerman of Livingston, MT, Pat (Amy) Cannedy of Greenview, IL, and Jess (Henry) Krug of Taylorville, IL; five great grandkids; and five great-great grandkids; and a daughter in law, Nanci Cannedy; and a special friend, JoAnn Yeaman. In addition to his wife Elfrieda, he was preceded in death by one son, Steven Cannedy; parents, and three brothers, Floyd Cannedy, Paul Cannedy, Rollin Cannedy; and one sister, Donna Jurina.

Gail owned and operated Prairie State Insurance Company in Springfield. He enjoyed helping on the farm with the livestock and attending livestock shows.

He was a member of Sugar Creek United Methodist Church where he was an active member and serving on several boards including the leadership board which he was currently serving on.

Visitation: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Rev. Paul Dinges officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sugar Creek United Methodist Church.
