Gary Boston, 69, of Springfield, passed away at home on June 25, 2026.
He was born on February 25, 1957, the son of Robert E and Mary Ellen (Fite) Boston, and they preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving wife Bonnie S Harpin, who he married on June 28, 1997, his son Jeff Lynn (Amy), Bonnie’s children Melanie Burlison, Andy Suter, and daughter-in-law Kara Winters. He is survived by brothers Mark Boston (Jennifer) and Michael Boston, and in-laws Donna Pickering and Ron Harpin.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Levi Lynn, Remi Lynn, Gavin Suter, Corinne Brooks, Claire Sukhai, and his beloved rescue pup, Molly.
Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Brian Boston (Angie), Ben Boston (Amy), Robbie Kelly, Chris Hernandez (Rick), Mike Phillips and several great nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Lanphier High School, in 1975, where he enjoyed playing tennis, especially doubles, he then received his degree from DeVry in Electronics Engineering Technology. His last position until his death was with IDOT. Although proud of his career choice, his first love was music. He performed with various bands over the years as a drummer–not a percussionist–he would say.
Gary was a homebody and he loved his acre on which sits the home, built by himself, Bonnie, and many close friends. He loved basketball and was a huge Illinois fan.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Long Bridge Golf Course from 3pm until 7pm. Jeans and T-shirts are encouraged. Please come and share your stories.
Graveside gathering and prayer to be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 10 am, guidance provided by Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
