Gary J. Hubbard, 76, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 3, 1948, in Springfield, IL, the son of Joe and Wilma (Bloom) Hubbard. He married Carol “Susie” Downey on April 10, 1982, and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Joni (Phil) Limper; son, Jeff (Shelly) Kinner; five grandchildren, Karissa (Nathan) Lair, Brian Limper, Brittany (Matt) Henton, Tayler (Sam Mitchell) Kinner and Brett Limper; sister, Sue (John) Limback; niece, Amanda (Craig) Strader; nephew, Travis (Megan Sha) Limback; and great-nephews, Max May and Colby Strader.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was raised in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. He joined the United States Army, where he proudly served our country in the Vietnam War and earned the Bronze Star Medal.
He then went to work for IL Bell, later AT&T, for 30 years as a truck transport driver.
He will be deeply missed by his family and those who knew him for his sense of humor.
Visitation: 12:00 - 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Chaplain Scott Nichols officiating.
Graveside Service: 10:00 am, Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
