Gomer Mabie, 97 of Springfield, passed away at 9:48 am, Friday, January 17, 2025 at Villas of Hollybrook in Chatham. He was born September 7, 1927, in Springfield, the son of Edris and Mabel (Wilcoxson) Mabie. He married Margaret Ann Smith on August 5, 1950, and she survives.

Also surviving are one sister Joan Bohles of Springfield and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by parents and three siblings, MaeBelle Joyce, Edris Mabie, and Oliver Mabie.

Gomer was a United States Army WWII veteran and was honorably discharged in 1946 from the 325th Glider Unit.

Gomer retired as a Boom crane operator after 34 years of service and a union steward from Fiat Allis.

Following retirement, Gomer worked at the counter at Pasfield Golf Course.

He was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church, Pasfield Park Men’s Club, Bunn Park Men’s Club, several horseshoe and golf leagues. Gomer was an avid golfer, loved playing cards, and a volunteer at Camp COCO.

Visitation: 3 – 6 pm, Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10 am, Friday, January 31, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Cindy Lash officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Camp COCO.
