Helen L. Woods (age 95) of Springfield passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024. She was born October 25, 1929, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Mitchell Brady. Her parents, sisters Mary Benton and Ann Mabie, and brothers Thomas and James Brady preceded her in death.

Helen loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchild, and they survive her. Her children are William Woods (Theresa Hammitt), Nance Woods, Debra Woods (Tony Castegnaro) and Robert Woods (Jeanni Woods). Her grandchildren are Wyatt Woods (Adrienne Woods), Emmett Woods (Morgan Leach), Taylor Woods (Ross Keefer) and Jayci Shaw. Her great grandchild is Nola Woods.

Helen was a hard worker and started her working career in high school at Piggly Wiggly. She also worked at Sangamo Electric and retired from Springfield Mass Transit where she prepared the payroll by hand.

She looked forward to each Friday at the “V” (VFW) with her friends, especially Sharon Conner and Charlie Busher. She enjoyed and was very lucky at betting horse races, playing slot machines and her $3 lottery Bingo tickets.

A private family burial will be held at a later date. The family will host a Celebration of Life at Capital Teletrack, 1766 Wabash Ave., Springfield, IL from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
