James Joseph Martin “Jim”, 83, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Springfield Care Suites. Jim was born on July 25, 1941, in Springfield, IL to Alex and Mary (Bartolozzi) Martin Sr. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Ann Kerske on June 29, 1963, and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2019.

Also preceding him in death are his parents, and son-in-law, Terry Myers.

He is survived by his daughters, Leigh Ann Myers of Williamsville, Stephanie L. (Robert) Danielson of Springfield, and Tracy J. Leka of Sherman; seven grandchildren, Andrea (Dan) Kuhlman, Alisha (Chris) Riggen, Caitlyn Danielson, Alexandria (Rowdy) England, Taylor Danielson, Zane Danielson, and Chase Leka; two great grandchildren, Samuel Kuhlman and Tori Riggen; brother, Alex Martin Jr. of Peoria; uncle, John (Barbara) Bartolozzi of Glenarm; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim attended Cathedral High School and then proceeded to attend The University of Illinois. He worked his entire career at the Franklin Life Insurance Company and then AIG as a medical underwriter. He retired as a Vice President of AIG.

His faith was of great importance to him. He was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Church. James was the ultimate girl dad. He adored his family.

In his free time, he enjoyed playing many different sports. He participated in softball, golf, bowling, and basketball. He played senior softball into his 70’s. His love for his girls was also demonstrated by his coaching of their sports, softball, volleyball, and basketball.

Visitation: 10:00 am – 11:30 am, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at St. Francis Cabrini Church.

Funeral Mass: 11:30 am, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at St. Francis Cabrini Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Cabrini Church, American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
