Jo Ann Lester, 82, of Springfield, IL, passed away at 2:00 pm, on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Springfield Memorial Hospital, with her daughter by her side. She was born on December 19, 1942, the daughter of Joseph C. and Josephine A. (Pekol) White. She married the love of her life, Larry E. Lester on October 5, 1979.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Harry) Coffin of Springfield; her cherished grandchildren, Joshua Michael Scott, Shelby Ann Scott, Abby Nicole Scott, Savannah Riley Coffin, and Macklin Cedric Coffin. Jo Ann also leaves behind a niece, Sirena Gerber and sister-in-law, Nancy White.
Jo Ann now joins in final rest her parents, her husband, Larry E. Lester, her son Michael Joseph Scott, and her three brothers, Georgie, Joseph, and James White, along with George L. Scott, Jr., the father of her children.
A graduate of Feitshans High School, Jo Ann's professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. Her career at the Illinois Department of Human Services spanned an impressive 35 years, culminating in her role as a data processing manager until her well-deserved retirement in March 2001.
Jo Ann's involvement with Western Oaks Baptist Church deepened after the passing of her husband, Larry, as she found solace and strength in her faith community.
Visitation: 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Josh Parsons officiating. Cremation will be arranged following services.
Graveside Service: 12:00 pm, Friday, May 9, 2025 at Old Salem Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
