Joan T. Forgas, 100, of Springfield, IL passed away at 11:55 pm, Friday, January 2, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. She was born May 22, 1925, in Mt. Sterling, IL, the daughter of James M. and Mary M. (Woods) Dunn. She married Andrew Forgas September 2, 1946, and he preceded her in death February 18, 2012.
She is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Mike) Snopko and Mary Beth (Rai) Richardson, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Mike (Rachelle) Snopko of Washington, IL, Jennifer (Andy) Hennig, Casey Richardson, Tess Richardson and Claire (DJ) Cook of Springfield, IL; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor Novotnak of Springfield, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Helen Hartmann, Betty Sowarsh, Marcella Dahlkamp, Dorothy Neuman, Regina Welch and Peggy Rose Dunn.
Joan was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sangamo Surf Club and Elks Lodge #158.
She retired from State of Illinois after 25 years as an account technician and had also worked at Sangamo Electric.
Visitation: 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Funeral Mass: 11:30 am, Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Brian Alford officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Little Flower School or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
