John Patrick Berman, 83, of Springfield, IL, passed away at Springfield Memorial Hospital at 7:45 pm, Tuesday, October 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. John was born on July 16, 1941, in Springfield, IL to Mortimer E. Berman and Catherine (Cunningham) Berman. He married Karen Ooton on December 17, 1971, and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Aimee (Eric) Mayland of Springfield, Jason (Anne Marie) Berman of Chicago, Helen Berman and Bryan Berman both of Louisville, KY; two grandsons, Adam and Noah Mayland; a sister, Maggie Dresch of Crestview, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Jay Berman.

John retired as an Interior Decorator at Illinois Bell, where he worked for over twenty years. He also owned and operated Berman Rentals with his wife Karen.


He graduated from the Marmion Military Academy in 1959. He went on to receive a degree from the Chicago Art Institute. John attended West Side Christian Church.

John enjoyed golfing, playing poker, traveling, the occasional slot machine, and bowling. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.

Memorial Gathering: 4-6 pm, Thursday, October 24, 2024, at West Side Christian Church.

Memorial Service: 6 pm, Thursday, October 24, 2024, at West Side Christian Church.

Graveside Service: 11 am, Friday, October 25, 2024 at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
