Joseph E. “Joe” Landers, 85, of Springfield, passed away at 3:31 am, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. He was born August 16, 1939, in Williamsville, IL, the son of Joseph Earl and Edna Irene (Collins) Landers. He married Judith Whalen November 30, 1958.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Judith; two daughters, Joyce (Tim) Collier of Greenwood, IN, Janet (Tom Bechtel) Weile of Indianapolis; son, Jeffrey (Tammy) Landers of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Makenzie and Ethan; 5 great grandchildren, Quinn, Cora, Ana, Chandler and Chloe and a great granddaughter on the way; two sisters, Clara Lowery of Indianapolis and Audrey “Jeanie” Feagans of Springfield, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Landers.

Joe was a member of Eastview Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy from 1957 – 1962. He loved to watch John Wayne and Western movies. Joe enjoyed watching the Springfield Sliders and Cardinals baseball. His hobbies included bowling, fishing, old cars and playing cards with his friends. His pride and joy was his 1985 El Camino that he personally restored.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until time of services at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eastview Baptist Church.
