Judy Slatten Countryman, 94, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Springfield Suites and Rehab. She was born on July 10, 1932, in Beaumont, TX, the daughter of Newman and Ruth Schley Slatten. She married Dean Clark Countryman on July 18, 1953, and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2019.
Judy is survived by five children, Craig (Beth) Countryman, Rebecca Countryman, Dick Countryman, Bruce (Stephanie) Countryman, and Paul (Marni) Countryman; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Dean, Judy was preceded in death by her parents.
Judy worked as an interior decorator for over twenty years for Stearns Carriage House in Springfield.
She was an avid bridge player and played in three bridge leagues throughout Springfield. She enjoyed knitting baby caps for Threads of Love San Antonio, SARAH Chapter. The SARAH chapter supplies caps to NICU babies in San Antonio, Houston, and military hospitals in Germany. It is estimated that she has knitted over 500 baby caps for the past seven years. She was also an avid Jeopardy fan and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield.
Memorial Mass: 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Christ Episcopal Church – Springfield with The Rev. Dr. Gregory A. Tournoux officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
