Lorraine Scott Markillie, 87, passed away at 4:30 am, Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Villa at Hickory Point in Forsyth, IL. She was born on February 17, 1939, in Jacksonville, IL, the daughter of Dale and Mildred (Souza) Smith. Lorraine had a twin brother, Wayne and he preceded her in death in 1984. She has a sister, Gerry (Dick) Schermer of Pekin, IL.

 Lorraine was raised in Jacksonville, IL, graduating from Illinois College in 1961. She married Larry Scott in August 1961, and he preceded her in death in June 1996. They had two daughters, Rhonda Hollinshead born March 27, 1963, died March 3, 2011, and Stacey Tejada Straubinger born August 8, 1964. She lives with her husband, Vince, in Bluford, IL.

 Lorraine began her career as a social worker at Family Service Center in Springfield, IL in June 1961. She worked there until her retirement in December 1998. During her 37 years as an adoption worker, Lorraine was involved in the adoption placements of at least seven hundred children.

 Lorraine married Robert Markillie in October 1998. He preceded her in death in October 2023. She is survived by her daughter Stacey (Vince), six grandchildren, Jared Tejada (Jennifer Tucker), Rachel (Leigh) Tejada, Eric Tejada (Amy Kuehn), Lauren Hollinshead, Trey (Sami) Hollinshead and Ty Hollinshead, and four great grandchildren, Isla Tejada-Tucker, Indy Tejada-Tucker, Levi Tejada and Emmy Hollinshead, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews and countless close friends.

 Lorraine loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She adored her many family pets. She was a contributor to numerous animal charities. Donations on her behalf can be made to the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County.

 Visitation: 9:00 – 11:00 am, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.

 Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman with Barbara Wooldridge officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
