Margaret “Margie” Ann Mabie 98, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at The Villas Of Holly Brook in Chatham. Margie was born on October 16, 1926, in Springfield, IL to Fred P. and Hazel (Clark) Smith and they preceded her in death. Margie married the love of her life, Gomer Mabie on August 5, 1950, and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2025.

 

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Bohles and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

After Margie graduated high school, she attended Browns Business College. After college, she worked at Fiat-Allis as a secretary for 35 years before retiring.

 

Margie attended Third Presbyterian Church. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed many golf leagues, especially in Bergen Park and Pasfield Park. She was a past member of the Bunn Golf Course League and belonged to the Springfield Woman’s Club. Upon retirement, she joined the Fiat-Allis Salaried Retirees Club. Margie also enjoyed playing cards and playing the slot machines at the casino.

 

Visitation: 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

 

Funeral Service: 1:30 pm, Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Cindy Lash officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
