Rachelle Renee Nickey, age 47, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026. She was born on July 28, 1978, in Springfield, IL, and lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a deep love for the people and places that mattered most to her.
Rachelle was the beloved wife of Rachael Nickey of St. Petersburg, FL, and proud mother of her son, Isaiah Nickey, also of St. Petersburg, FL, who she considered the greatest Blessing of her life. She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Mary Dorsey of Concord, IL; her stepmother, Debbie Glover of Urbana, IL; her step-brother, Brenton Dorsey and his wife Erica of Beardstown, IL; her step-sisters, JoEllyn Jacoby and her husband Darren of Athens, IL, and Laura Ramsey and her husband Dan of Ellisville, MO; her aunts, Terry Harris and her husband Don of Leesburg, FL, and Marsha Matthew of Springfield, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Nickey; her stepfather, Donald Dorsey; her maternal grandmother, Wilma Yaeger; her paternal grandparents, Rene and Pearl Nickey; and her aunt, Shirley Peebles.
Rachelle graduated from Triopia High School in Concord, IL, and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign. She carried her education into a meaningful and compassionate career at the University of Illinois School of Social Work for 10 years. In January 2024, she began working as the Human Resources Business Partner for the Westcare Golf Coast Region, where she continued to serve others with professionalism, empathy, and dedication.
Those who knew Rachelle will remember her as a woman with a generous spirit and a warm heart. She was a faithful member of Artisan City Church in St. Petersburg, FL, where she was very active and found joy in fellowship and service. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she lived it through her actions, her encouragement of others, and her steady presence in the lives of those around her.
Rachelle also embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved going to Universal Studios and made it her mission to ride every roller coaster there. She adored her two dogs, Flex and Mali, who brought her comfort and happiness. Her favorite place to be was at the beach, where she found peace, serenity and renewal of faith. Rachelle was our little historian, our keeper of memories. She took photos of every family function and event she was at.
Whether spending time with family, enjoying her favorite places, or simply sharing her bright spirit with others, Rachelle made lasting memories that will be treasured always.
Her life was a blessing to her family, friends, church community, and coworkers. She will be remembered for her loving nature, her strong work ethic, her devotion to those she held dear, and the joy she brought into the lives of others. Though her time on earth was far too brief, the love she gave and the example she set will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation: 11 am – 1 pm, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, IL.
Funeral Service: 1 pm, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, IL with Pastor Chris Dew officiating. Burial will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
