Richard K. “Dick” Allender II, 81 of Springfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 8:41 am, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at his home. He was born July 25, 1944, in Springfield, to Richard K. and Patricia J. (Pefferle) Allender. Dick was raised by his mother and stepfather, Frank Connolley as his father perished in World War II, several months before he was born. He married Cynthia K. Bilyeu on Jun 18, 1966 and they had 59 beautiful and loving years together.

 Dick is survived by his wife, Cynthia “Cindi” Allender of Springfield; one daughter, Keri (John) Mayfield of Springfield; one son, Richard “Rick” (Jennifer) Allender III of Springfield; six grandchildren, Spencer (Lily) Allender, Landon Allender, Preston Allender, Hannah (Brandon) McCaffrey, Claire (Jacob) Schuette and Sophia Mayfield; two great grandchildren, Grayson and Mia Schuette and twin McCaffrey girls expected in the new year; two sisters, Joyce (Don) Catron of Auburn and Leslie Pugh of MN; two brothers, Michael Connolley of Springfield and John (Mel) Connolley of Petersburg and several nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Becky Austwick.

 Dick retired from the State of Illinois after 30 years with the Illinois Department of Insurance, where he was admired for his knowledge and compassion.

 He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and was a 59-year member of Lake Press Club. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.

 He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends and all those who were lucky enough to know him.

 He thanks you all for the love you showed him through his life. He loved all of you.

 Memorial Gathering: 10 am – 12 pm, Friday, November 21, 2025, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

 Memorial Mass: 12 pm, Friday, November 21, 2025, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with Reverend Brian Alford officiating. Inurnment will be held at Calvary Columbarium at a later date.

 Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Illinois.
