Robert “Bob” E. Wagner 73, of Springfield, died at 8:44 am, Saturday, June 6, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. He was born June 18, 1952 in Peoria, to James R. and Ruth F. (Phalen) Wagner. He married Kathleen A. Peterson on July 22, 1972, and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2013. He married Linda Goetz on September 1, 2016 and she preceded him in death on September 21, 2025.
Also preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Marilyn Schroeder.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth K. Wagner of Seattle, WA and Alison R. Wagner of Oak Park, IL; one brother, Jay (Judy) Wagner of Buckeye, AZ and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was an Attorney with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General; Illinois Department of Insurance; Hinshaw and Culbertson as well as having worked in private practice. He also was an Instructor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
He was the drummer for the band “Real Time” and was very active with the local jazz scene. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, pickleball and good coffee.
He was a well-loved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Memorial Gathering: 2 - 4 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Memorial Service: 4 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Staab funeral Home – Springfield.
A private burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Area Arts Council.
