Robert “Bob” V. Finney, 90, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 21, 2026. A man of integrity, service, and simple pleasures, Bob left a lasting mark on his community and the family he loved so dearly.
Bob was born on August 22, 1935, the son of Virgil and Gladys “Fern” Clovis Finney. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. Following his military service, Bob dedicated over 40 years to the State of Illinois Department of Corrections, where he was a respected supervisor. His commitment to leadership extended into his personal life as well, serving as the President of the Springfield Jaycees from 1966 to 1967.
On April 11, 1965, Bob married Linda Sanderfield. Together, they celebrated 60 years of a beautiful, enduring marriage and raised their son, Rob.
Bob was a man who truly appreciated the "good things" in life. He enjoyed fishing, and when he wasn’t by water, he could be found cheering on his favorite teams or participating in bowling and baseball. He had a lifelong love for dogs, a playful habit of testing his luck with the lottery, and an unwavering loyalty to his favorite snack, Oreo cookies. Above all, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald L. Finney.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his son, Robert “Rob” Finney (Mary Atkins) of Chatham; his brother, Terry “Butch” (Sandra) Finney of Springfield; his two cherished grandchildren, Elli and Joe Finney of Chatham; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him.
