Rosemary Collebrusco Stewart, 98, of Sherman, IL, formerly of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. She was born on February 2, 1928, to Henry Collebrusco and Josephine Agostini Collebrusco. She married her love, John “Jack” W. Stewart on August 10, 1961, and he preceded her in death on October 10, 2018.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; and ten siblings, Mary, Katherine, Joseph, Emily, Clara, James, Robert, Isabelle, Harry, and Marguerite. Rosemary is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Brian) Dillon of Naperville, IL, and John “Jay” (Michele) Stewart II of Sherman, IL; four grandchildren, Kori (Phillip) Camper, Sami (Zach) Bourland, Jenna Dillon, and Brian Dillon; nieces, Mary Coe and Rita Adams; nephew, Bobby Joe Collebrusco; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rosemary was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area and a proud graduate of Riverton High School. She dedicated much of her professional life to public service, first working as a record clerk for Sangamon County and later serving for many years as an administrative assistant with the Illinois House of Representatives. Known for her strong work ethic, warm personality, and willingness to help others, Rosemary left a lasting impression on the many people whose lives she touched throughout her career.
In retirement, Rosemary remained as active as ever, generously dedicating her time to numerous volunteer organizations. She served as a "Samaritan" at HSHS St. John's Hospital, volunteered at the Marian Center Religious Supplies and Books, supported Springfield Right to Life, and participated in pilgrimages around the world in support of her faith. Rosemary also had an adventurous spirit and eagerly boarded countless bus trips to explore destinations both near and far. Above all, she treasured time with her family, especially baking homemade apple pies with her grandchildren and preparing her beloved homemade pasta, always calling out, "Mangia, Mangia!" when it was time to eat.
While she cherished family gatherings, those who knew her best knew there was one tradition she could do without: a game of Uno. Rosemary's vibrant personality, generous heart, and joyful spirit will be remembered by all who loved her. She also took great pride in being a multiple-time winner of the coveted "Best Door Swag" award at the Villas in Sherman, a distinction that reflected both her creativity and enthusiasm for community life.
Funeral Mass: 9:00 am, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, with Rev. Fredrick Chima Mbiere officiating. A burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery – Springfield.
