Russell Stewart Anders, a beloved father, brother, and cherished member of the Springfield community, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at the age of 80 in his hometown of Springfield, IL. Born on November 23, 1944, also in Springfield, Russell's life was one marked by dedication, service, and the joy he brought to those around him.

Russell was a proud United States Navy veteran. His years of service were highlighted by his role as a Navy Photographer, capturing moments that would become part of our nation's history. Following his honorable discharge, he continued to contribute to his community through his work with the Plumbing and Steamfitters Union and as a Plumbing Inspector for the City of Springfield. His commitment to his work spanned over four decades, during which he was known for his diligence, intelligence, and integrity.

Beyond his professional life, Russell was a man of many interests and talents. For years, he donned the red suit and white beard, embodying the spirit of Santa Claus for the Sid Wood Memorial Toy Run, bringing smiles and joy to countless children during the holiday season. His passion for building model cars and semis was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his handy and wise nature, as he meticulously crafted each piece with love and attention to detail.

He is survived by his son, Russell Anders II, of Springfield, and his sister, Joan Elaine Nichols of Houston, TX, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Alice Dahl, Richard Lee Anders, Letha Houston, Richard Anders, Richard Franklin Anders and Mattie Rosetta Luck and grandson, Russell Stewart Anders III.

Russell Stewart Anders will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was one well-lived, and his legacy will endure through the lives he touched, the work he accomplished, and the love he shared.
