Scott Allen Ashton, 56 of Springfield, passed away at 10:32 pm, Friday, March 27, 2026 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He was born December 31, 1969 in Springfield, the son of the late James “Jimbo” Ashton and Mary Antenan.
Also preceding him in death is one brother, Jason Ashton.
He is survived by his son, Zach (Lindsey) Ashton of Owensboro, KY; three grandchildren, Caroline, Rory, and Baby girl, Millie Kate Ashton; one sister, Jodi (Rex) Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; one sister-in-law, Tammy Ashton of Cheyenne, WY; devoted life companion, Kelly Doty of Springfield; one uncle, Frank Ashton of Springfield; two nephews, Alex Beltran of Nampa, ID and Jacob Paul of Cheyenne, WY and his beloved dog, Boss.
Scott has been a resident of Springfield for most of his life and has worked for Horace Mann for several years. He was a graduate of Southeast High School, Class of 1989 and a member of the Lake Press Club.
Scott was the life of the party and loved to host his friends and family for everything. When he was a member at the Starlite campgrounds of Jacksonville, friends knew the party was going on at the Ashton Campsite by the orange glow on the canopy of the trees. He always believed it wasn’t a fire unless it could signal in a plane. His fires had a 10-log minimum and if the trees were glowing the beer was cold at his place. Come on over.
He loved having everyone over for the Super Bowl. And if you knew him and heard “Kookookachoo” you knew he was getting rowdy. He was an avid lover of the Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He always joked that the last time the Cowboys made it to the Super Bowl he watched it on VHS while his son has gotten to witness all of the Patriots super bowls in his lifetime.
Scott was always “Dad” to Zach, “Scott Boy” to Lindsey, “Papa” to the Littles, and “Homie” to his friends. His biggest pride and joy were his grand babies and not sure they ever heard the word “no” from their Papa. He always made sure they had gifts when they came over and they knew their snack cabinet was always full at Papa’s house. Lindsey was always referred to as his favorite daughter-in-law and even through the delirium he faced in his passing days, when he couldn’t remember that Zach was his son, he still remembered that Lindsey was his Favorite daughter-in-law even though she was his only daughter-in-law.
And if you came to anything Scott hosted, he wouldn’t let you go home with at least a plate or more.
Through his presence is gone, the joy he brought will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
