Shirley Ann Peterson, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 7:15 pm, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Arc of Sangamon Valley. She was born April 30, 1939, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Chester Arnold and Margaret Emma (Corcoran) Sizelove. She married William R. Peterson, Sr. on January 27, 1958, and he preceded her in death on December 9, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rita Cheffy and son-in-law, Joe Fickas.
She is survived by three children, William “Bill” (Paula) Peterson of Sherman, Cindy Fickas and Kimberly “Kim” (Brian) Judd, both of Springfield; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Shirley was a graduate of Ursuline Academy. She retired from Schnucks supermarkets after many years of service.
Private services will be held at a later date.
