Stephen “Steve” A. Pellegrini, 74, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025. He was born in Taylorville, IL on August 31, 1950, the son of Angelo J. and Albertine P. (Maton) Pellegrini. He married his love of 26 years, Beth Ann Flener on November 12, 2014 and she survives.
Steve is also survived by his two sons, Zack V. Pellegrini and Dalton (fiancé, Mahalia Davis) Ross, both of Springfield; sister, Lynne (Ray) Padovan of Charleston; brother, Greg (Deb) Pellegrini of Pawnee; sister-in-law, Debi (Tim) Marker of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Charles & Barbara Flener; and his best friend and four-legged companion, Winston.
Steve grew up in Decatur and was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School. After high school, he proudly served our country in the Vietnam War as a part of the United States Marine Corps, from 1968 - 1972. During his time with the Marines, he provided security detail in coordination with the Secret Service to protect President Richard Nixon. Following his service, he earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Eastern IL University.
He found his calling and joined the Springfield Police Department and served his community well for 30 years as a detective before retiring in 2010. Steve also served our country under special assignments for the DEA. He was a member of the Police Benevolent for many years.
Steve was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. Steve and Beth enjoyed the outdoors, from sitting on their front porch with neighbors to traveling near and far in their RV. They were blessed to enjoy spending winters in Arizona and made wonderful memories with friends and family.
Visitation: 10:30 – 12:30 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12:30 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Rev. Jefferey Grant officiating. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel To Towers Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, or to Sangamon County Animal Control.
