Our beloved brother and father, Tesfazion Woriseb Hibtes went home to be with the Lord on Sunday November 24, 2024. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in his home in Springfield, Illinois. Tesfazion was born on November 8, 1945, in Gheleb, Eritrea, to his mother, Teberih Tesfamichael and his father, Hibtes Woreseb.

He attended elementary school at Lutheran school in Gheleb, continued middle school at Beleza Lutheran School, and attended high school at the Techinical School in Asmara. He worked as a traffic policeman from 1967 to 1975 in the cities of Massawa and Asmara under the Ethiopian administration. In early 1975, he joined the armed forces for Independence of Eritrea.

After independence, he served his country with honor and full service. Tesfazion was discharged from the military in 1994 and in 1997 along with his some of his disabled veteran friends, they founded the Fire-Kalsi association.

In July 1992, he married his wife Adhanet Gebrerebi. In the year 2000, he migrated to the United States. Tesfazion loved his family, and he worked hard to provide and support his family until they joined him in the United States in 2012. His brother, Dr. Yegin, was at his side in all his life’s journey with his love, support, and encouragement.

Tesfazion is survived by his wife, Adhanet; daughter, Simret; five sons, Kibrom, Kiflom, Tesfit, Hibtes, and Megendeal; grandson, Ermias; son-in-law, Aman Berhe; two brothers, Dr. Yegin Habtes and Dr. Fee Habtes; and his sister, Abrhet Habtes.

Tesfazion was preceded by his parents; four sisters, Zewdi, Etmet, Kidisti, and Kina; and brother, Woriseb.

Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Saturday, November 30, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Reverend Linda Strader officiating. A burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
