Toshiko Bates, 101 of Springfield, passed away at 11:50 am, Sunday, July 5, 2026, at her home. She was born January 7, 1925, in Sasebo, Japan, the daughter of Koshiro and Lisa Nomoto. She married Terry Bates on February 19, 1966, and he survives.

 Also surviving are one daughter, Takako (Joseph) Halteman of Springfield; one daughter in law, Keiko Nomoto of Sasebo, Japan; three grandchildren, Eriko (Hirofumi), Chiharu (Noriyuki), and Yuki (Wilson); five great grandchildren, Nicholas, Emma, Nanami, Yudai, and Natsuki and several nieces and nephews.

 She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Toshihisa Nomoto; three brothers and two sisters.

 Toshiko enjoyed gardening, painting, playing pool, sewing, baking, and puzzles. Her favorite hobby of all was being Bachan.

 Memorial Gathering: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

 A private graveside will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 40 of Rochester, IL or Girl Scouts of Central Illinois.
