William David “Dave” Kruger, 82 of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born August 28, 1942, in Springfield, the son of William Albert and Helen Marie (Richardson) Kruger. He married Lillie Mae “Lil” Trimmer on May 31, 1985, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2008. 

 He is survived by his daughter, Jami Owens of Springfield; son, Jeff (Kerri) Kruger of Gardner, KS and their mother, Delores (Wilson) Kruger; stepson, Ryan (Amy) Ogden of Batavia; six grandchildren, Kelsey (Nathan) Park, Brett (Delaney) Owens, Marissa Kruger, Kenzie Kruger, Olivia and Luke Ogden; eight great grandchildren; lifelong partner, Patricia Ellerman of Springfield; bonus children, Scott (Jerica) Cobern, Diana (Dino) DeLong, Mindi (Kenny) Piek, and Kara Pierceall; bonus grandchildren, Blake, Brooklynn, Summer, Kailey, Tripp, Jace and Chloe; four siblings, Faye Roth, Frank (Pam) Kruger, Sharon (Charlie) Sakris, and Pam Kruger; sister in law, Gail Kruger and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillie “Lil” Kruger and brother, John Kruger.

  Dave was a United States Air Force veteran. He retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Natural Resources. He was a member of the Corvette Club and enjoyed cars and motorcycles. He also loved to take road trips and play his guitar. He enjoyed bluegrass music and horses.

 Visitation: 8:00 – 10:00 am, Friday, July 25, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

 Graveside Service: 11:00 am, Friday, July 25, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Refuge Ranch.
