William J. Evans, 85, of Springfield, IL, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 12:17 am. William was born on July 29, 1939, in Topeka, IL to William D. Evans Sr. and Bessie (Golden) Evans. He married Gale Jennings on September 12, 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Gale; three daughters, Carla (Steve) Prefountain, Becki (Ron) Wilshusen, and Crystal (fiancé, Jeremy) Craig, all of Springfield; son, James J. Craig II of Springfield; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie, Kayleigh, Yaeger, Stephen, Matt, Corey, Austen, Jayson, Alexia, Alyanah, Kinzie, Raegan; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Ushman of Springfield and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents; a daughter; a brother; and three sisters.

William belonged to Concordia Lutheran Church. William dedicated himself to music and was a musician known by the name Mr. Machine Gun. He also was a Forman of Engineering at MMC, he retired after 35 years. William served in the United States Air Force.

Private family services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church.
