Agnes E. Wheat, 81, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born November 17, 1940, in Springfield, the daughter of Theodore G. Charles, Sr. and Eileen M. (Cummings) Charles and they preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by five siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Wheat and son, James Wheat, both of Springfield; grandson, Matthew Wheat of Logan, UT; two sisters, Eileen M. (Brian) Lynn of Mason City and Michelle (Mark) Bumpus of Florida; two brothers, Timothy J. Charles of Mason City and Jerry Charles of Athens; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Agnes was a resident of Springfield for most of her life. She graduated from Lanphier High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Agnes was a United States Marine veteran serving from 1959–1962. She worked for Springfield Clinic for 45 years in the patient billing department.

Agnes loved reading and crossword puzzles. Above all else, she cherished each moment spent with her family.

Visitation: 3 – 5 pm, Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Monday, August 1, 2022 at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Manuel P. Cuizon officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
