Alice Marie Swanson, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at her home in Sherman, IL. She was born on October 28, 1942, in Moline, IL, to Stowell and Elsa (Larson) Masengarb.

Alice is survived by her beloved husband, Tim Swanson, and their three children: Kye and Amy Swanson of Sherman, and Kristin (Jeff) Huget of San Jose, CA. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Noelle and Nathan Huget, and her siblings: Jean Self of Tulsa, OK, Barbara Cline of Bettendorf, IA, and John Masengarb of Long Grove, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Alice grew up in Moline, IL, graduating from Moline High School in 1960, where she was initiated into the National Honor Society and played on the tennis team. She pursued her passion for helping others by enrolling in the Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated and became a Registered Nurse in 1963. She married Tim Swanson on July 20, 1963, and they moved to Champaign-Urbana where he completed his civil engineering degrees at the University of Illinois. Following his graduation, they established their family in Fairview Heights, IL, eventually moving to Sherman in 1972.

Alice dedicated 28 years of her life to Springfield Memorial Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse helping countless mothers bring their children into the world. She was deeply committed to her Christian faith and was an active member of the Sherman Methodist Church. Alice served in various capacities within the church, including as a Trustee, financial secretary, and member of the Methodist Women. She also volunteered her time to assist with funeral dinners and chicken suppers. As an advocate for the Special Olympics, particularly the swimming division, Alice found joy in supporting others.

She enjoyed downhill skiing, water skiing, tennis, and pickleball with friends and family. At home, she was devoted to baking, caring for the family dogs, and tending to her garden. She travelled often to spend time with her grandchildren.

Alice will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering faith, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Memorial Gathering: 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.

Memorial Service: 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman with Pastor Jon Carrell officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sherman Methodist Church – Building Fund; or to the YMCA Strong Kids Fund.
