Annetta (Babe) Books, 99, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the home of her daughter who was her long-time caregiver. Born on July 31, 1926, in Springfield, IL. Babe was the fourth of nine children born to Orville and Annetta Turley. Her husband Edward and two sons, George and Mark, proceeded her in death.

She was called Babe before she was named and it stuck. Babe was a graduate of Lanphier High School and this is where she met her lifelong partner Ed. They were married in 1946 following his discharge from the Army.

Babe was a woman of many talents; she was a painter, a wallpaper hanger, a hair stylist, a waitress and an expert seamstress. But that wasn’t enough for Babe, at the age of 56 she decided to run for a seat on the county board. And yes, she was elected.

Babe loved watching the Golden Girls and doing her word find books but what she loved most was spending time with family.

She is survived by Edward Jr (Carla) Bloomington, IL, Wayne (Aquilla) Petersburg, IL, Brenda [Jack) Sherman, IL; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by daughters-in-law Bonnie (George) and Doreen (Mark).

Babe will be laid to rest with her husband at Camp Butler Cemetery.
