Bonnie A. Smith, 68, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at her home. She was born in Springfield on November 30, 1955 to Elwood Joseph Brandenburg and Anna M. Hess. She married Thomas V. Smith on October 24, 1992 and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2011.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Bill Tucker; and beloved chihuahuas, Belle and Buster.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Tucker of Springfield; brother, Joe (Janet) Brandenburg of Springfield; two nephews, James and John; and several cousins.

Bonnie was a 1973 graduate of Springfield High School and formerly resided in Franklin, Athens and Sunset Lake in Girard. She worked at K-Mart as a manager for 10 years, then went on to work for the Secretary of State as security with 30 years of service before retiring.

Bonnie loved racing and watched NASCAR any chance that she could.

Cremation will be arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with no services, per Bonnie’s wishes. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
