Carole (Flood) Holladay, 81, of Lincoln, IL, formerly of Springfield, IL, passed peacefully into Heaven on December 9, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield, IL to Walter L. and Annize Matern Flood on December 29, 1940. Her parents and infant great-granddaughter, Harper Holladay preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Darrell Holladay, her daughter Cherie Aper (husband Terry), and sons Jeff and Gary (wife Ann) Holladay. Also surviving her are her sister Nancy Flood-Golembeck (husband Ed), grandchildren Erin Burns (husband Merritt) and their children, Martin and Lauren; Kyle Frick (wife Laura) and their daughter Maeve; Ryan Aper and children Addy and Josie; Ryan Holladay (wife Jordyn) and their daughter, Harlee Jo; and Shelby Kaufman (husband Jack) and their son, William and another soon-to-be-born son. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Sharon Meyers and nephews Mark Meyers (wife Julie) and their children Max and Alex, and Michael Meyers and children Shawn and Shannon. Also surviving are several cousins.

Carole graduated from Feitshans High School and earned an associate degree from Lincoln Land Community College. She was a medical transcriptionist for Springfield Clinic for many years.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, antiquing, quilting, cooking and baking. Her family holiday meals were legendary and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. She lent a special creative touch to everything she did, whether decorating the house, creating quilts for family members, or baking cookies with the grandchildren.

Carole lived in Springfield most of her life and was an active member of Third Presbyterian Church. She was one of the founders of the Northside Children’s Community Library, housed in the church. It was a dream she worked tirelessly on, bringing to fruition.

Memorial Service: 1 pm, Monday, December 19, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Adam Quine officiating.
