Charles R. Lowe, Jr. 80, of Springfield, died at 1:25 am, Thursday, December 22, 2022 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born April 28, 1942 in Springfield, to Charles R. and Martha (Oberreiter) Lowe, Sr. He married Barbara S. Ruble on August 18, 1990 and she survives.

Also surviving are 1 son, Tyler (Missy) Lowe of Springfield; 3 stepchildren, Lisa (Dave) Bok of AZ, Stephanie Koyne of Riverton and Troy (Angie) Koyne of Pawnee; 7 grandchildren, Allison, Colton, Hailey, Dakoda, Skyler, Rylan and Hunter; two sisters, Barbara (Al) Curry of Springfield and Sandy (Bob) Steimel of Chatham and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Abel.

Charles was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of Riverton Christian Church.

He was a retired Sergeant of the Springfield Police Department where he served for more than 30 years. He was an Instructor at the Police Academy and worked as a Liaison at the States Attorney’s Office.

Charles loved working on lawnmowers and John Deere tractors. He was a gunsmith and instructor. He enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Additional Visitation: 10:30 – 11:30 am, Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Riverton Christian Church.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Riverton Christian Church with Pastor Brian Atwell. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Sangamon County Animal Control.
